The White City Beckons is a digital scrapbook collection designed with heritage and genealogy scrappers in mind. World's Fair elements, ephemera, and period papers are beautiful for your family layouts or to create antique cards or printable projects.
The new event: a “World Exhibition” was all the rage in the late 1800s and early 1900s and continued even in the middle of the 20th century. It was a place to show off all the newest technological marvels, to display & encourage the arts, to boost consumerism (newly minted term), and to inspire inventors and dreamers.
The Chicago World’s Fair: the “Columbian Exhibition of 1893”, was an exciting and magical place on 630 acres that became known as the “White City on the Lake” for its more than 200 palatial white buildings that were emulated for many years to come in civic construction all over the United States. More than 26 million people visited the fair during its six-month run. The scale and grandeur far exceeded previous fairs. Chicago Day (Oct 9, 1893) set a world record for outdoor event attendance, drawing 751,026 people.
